For a musical history search unearthed for Happigun or eskimo.

Arctic Circus is a decision I made this year.

After fifteen years of making music and putting together various bands and recording projects which never played live or released an album( not quit true I had a band in Perth called "arc" from about 1990-1995 that actually played on "live at the wireless" I think on Richard Kingsmill's show. Boy I would love to get a copy of that) any way I have realized I have a significant body of work that has a common thread .ME.
That may sound like a fairly egocentric motivation for putting it out there but don't get me wrong. Every piece of music that has come out of what I now call Arctic Circus would not be possible without the input , inspiration and direction of the people I have worked with. Every thing I have ever made would not be what it is with out the pathways led me down. I think my role in this has been to stand in-front of a swirling chaos of melodies rhythms words and organize them in a way that resonates emotionally and intellectually with me. The one ingredient that has been missing has been an audience. The great thing about being human is we are all essential made of the same stuff so hopefully when something resonates with me it also resonates with some of you. So hear I am or rather here is Arctic Circus.

So who are the people and what have we called ourselves and how did it become Arctic Circus.
Well apart from my first band arc which Im not including in Arctic Circus. There was eskimo 1997 to who knows when (Hmm any one noticing the snowy theme to the names). eskimo was me as in Drew and Lucy Ogilvie. Eskimo was Myself and Lucy's dream of being in a band and writing music for film and TV . This morphed into a studio "eskimo productions" . Eskimo productions is still going and over the years we have had the privilege of working with some of Australia's and the worlds most inspiring artists , film makers musicians and bands check out www.eskimoproductions.com . Hang on I just remembered eskimo also played the last gig I ever played. I think I have actually blocked that from my memory it was so bad there was a window next to the stage, I seriously nearly climbed out half way through the show.
Then their was Hapigun.
Hapigun was a collaboration between myself and Naomi Braun. Naomi has an incredible gift for improvising words and melodies that sound like they have been developed over time crafted written and re written . All the tracks you hear with her were essentially recorded in 2 or three takes and most of the lyrics are improvised from phrases she kept in a little note book. So the two tracks on here" Heart in My Pocket " and "Star" came from the Hapigun sessions.
The name arctic Circus actually had its birth in about 1997. a little label wanted two of eskimos tracks for a compilation. They didn't want any one band over represented so they asked me to think of another name for one of the tracks ( a bit cheeky really). So thats how the name came about. by the way I think it was before arctic monkeys.

So here we are .
