The heartfelt lyrical honesty, elaborate arrangements and refusal to be categorised by one musical style are what sets Saving Grace apart on the local music scene. Saving Grace draw their musical influence from performers such as Damien Rice, Ben Harper and The Beatles, and have been likened by critics to Jeff Buckley, early Coldplay and Radiohead. Although relatively new on the local live scene, the band have already been described by industry insiders as making ‘delicious music for discerning ears’.
Singing/song writing duo and long-time friends, Sam McNeill and Adrian Leung, spent 2005 together in England, playing covers in pubs to tiny audiences. They eventually came to the realisation that more people should hear their unique musical talents and decided it was time to start working on original music that would connect with audiences. On return to Sydney, McNeill and Leung began study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and found themselves surrounded by like-minded musos, such as Cellist Amelia Rutherford and percussionist Rob Di Marzo who soon joined the two. McNeill’s distinctive choral and opera-trained voice and Leung’s soaring compositions instantly bonded with the new members. Thus, Saving Grace was born and began performing within the month. Bass player Adam Rodriguez is the most recent addition to the classically trained group.
Since forming, Saving Grace have delighted their growing fanbase with engaging performances at some of Sydney’s top venues, including The Basement, The Vanguard, The Hopetoun and The Gaelic Club. Saving Grace will be celebrating the launch of ‘One, Two, Three’, the first single from their latest EP Pages, at Notes in Newtown on Friday October 2. Pages will be available in stores from October 6, distributed by MGM and Risky Records.
"It was obvious that this band has a very loyal and passionate fan base and the reason is simple: the songs are fantastic." - Drum Media
“The show was a great blend of originality and unusual musical and vocal sounds that left me wanting to hear more” - The Independent Weekly
“Saving Grace make delicious music for discerning ears. Their strong songs and powerful delivery are given further depth by deft string arrangements and close vocal harmonies.” - Steve Griffiths (Code One Entertainment)
