"...As far as debut E.Ps go, Open Heart from Imogen Brave is a winner! ... a very solid listening experience, and a sound that is very original. The vocals from Stef are simply perfect. More than just a hint of Gwen Stefani influence shines through, particularly on the opening track "Walk Away", while her talents truly shine on "Missing You Dearly". The rhythm section provided by Andy on drums and Neil on Bass is superb, and Mick on guitars can't be faulted. Imogen Brave appear to be a well practised and confident unit, and write tunes that would comfortably slot onto any commercial radio station. "Desperate Lines, Open Doors" is quite reminiscent of Australian alternative band Something With Numbers, while "Exit Collapses" is a little Killing Heidi. The final moment on the E.P, "Love is Like (Open Heart)" is possibly the moodiest and most frantic the E.P gets, and is the perfect way to close out this debut. After only 5 songs, I am left wanting more... And that is a good thing!..." Shayne, The Hard Rock Show for www.theRockpit.com

Imogen Brave claim they are a pop/rock band. Although their live show more accurately amps up to a passionate heavy rock gig featuring strong vocals, guitar driven tracks and a gutsy rhythm section; their recordings show there is more to Imogen Brave than gutso. They also have a lot of heart and soul.

With the band's influences ranging from 70s legends Led Zeppelin, to the Stone Temple Pilots, there are definitely vocal influences from early No Doubt, Garbage, Little Birdy and The Pretty Reckless in there too.

If you like your rock solid and melodic, then meet Imogen Brave.

BAND HISTORY

Imogen Brave began as a solo songwriting project for guitarist Mick back in 2005. Coming from a Heavy Metal background in bands such as Kickstart, his songwriting was often subject to the genre, and left him with a back catalogue of material he wanted to express through a different avenue. After collaborating with a few singers on a number of his songs, Mick found Stef through a side-project pop/rock covers band he was also working on at the time. After the initial stages of the partnership it was evident that Steffi was nursing her own pop-riddled songwriting style which complimented Mick's more classic sound to create a truly great new direction for the duo. After entering a number of tracks to SCALA's (Songwriters and Lyricists Association) Festival of Original Music Awards in the subsequent year, and receiving some positive results; including a Commendation and High Commendation, it was evident that this project needed to become more than "Mick and Stef". Drummer Andy and bassist Scott joined the collaboration in early 2007, also through the covers band in which Mick and Stef originally met, and work began on turning this duo project into a live act.

After more than two years on the live scene, and after writing in excess of twenty songs, Imogen Brave farewelled bassist Scott, siting clashing schedules and stagnancy. Thus dawned a new era for the band, taking on Neil as a breath of fresh air for the complacent band in 2010, sparking fresh songwriting ideas, and motivating Imogen Brave to take on the big bad world of rock with a more fervent urgency.

After a hugely successful launch of their EP 'Open Heart' at the Enigma Bar, Adelaide on October 1st, Imogen Brave are planning their next bigger and better release, along with an East Coast tour for 2012. Watch this space!

I've seen this band play around Adelaide & they remind me of Zak Wylde/Paramore - very American sounding but they do it sooo well!
