Interview: 1 November 2010
Tell us about your music – how did you develop your sound?
Different styles of music have always been around. Jazz, folk and the blues were a predominant part of my growing up musically. My dad would play his twelve string guitar and sing these old songs all the time. My brother used to write cool 90's rock guitar songs, which was a nice contrast. I think even though I seem to have a particular sound, I never really concsioulsy thought about it much, then I realised i sounded like these old time records! i guess my voice has slowly developed into it's own unique thing in the last few years, which is lucky it suits the kind of music and songs that I write too. The song ''What Do I Do'' is a really swampy dirty blues with some very sexy male backing vocals running thru it which I think sit well with my voice, the percussion and double bass.

What should a punter expect at your show?
If you come to a live show, expect to sing ''What Do I Do'' with me. I tend to play solo shows at this stage mostly, so it's nice to get the audience singin a bit too.. they always give in and it sounds great. When I do play with a band, it's pretty exciting, as the musicians who come to play with me are truly incredible. You'll most definitely meet my damn fine guitar Betty if you come to a gig. She's from '57 and all the boys want her. I wrote a song about her and you'll hear that tune at a gig for sure. It's kind of a rockabilly vibe number.

Tell us more about your influences…
Definitely a lot of classic blues, jazz, and motown etc have been around since I was young. I have always been interested in modern music as well. I was always up watching music video shows early on weekend mornings and enjoyed pop music just as much as the old stuff my folks and siblings played me. I actually enjoy writing lots of styles music, not just the old sounding music. I love writing ultra modern styles too. I guess a culmination of all of these music styles keep my sound fresh.

What’s coming up in the future?
I am about to embark on my first national tour for my single ''What Do I Do''. Then next year, I want to record at least 2 EP's, to show some the different facets of my songwriting and voice. I have another project called idea idea, with my best friend MoR. It is electronic based music. We'll release an EP as well soon. Making music video's is becoming a massive passion of mine. I would make a video for each song if I could, so i'll be keeping myself busy with that, in between recording and touring both of these projects.

Australian music is?
Super diverse. but that makes sense, since this is a relatively new country with so many cultures intertwined in it. What a talented lot of musicians and songwriters we have here. We are so lucky!
